Commerce Minister Will Cancel The Decision No 67/2020
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry will cancel the decision No 67/2020 which was issued in March 2020 to regulate the sale of food products to consumers to prevent the arbitrary increase in the cost of these products following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic when the borders of countries remained closed to prevent the spread of infection and as a result there was fear of food commodities becoming scarce, reports Al-Anba daily.
Informed sources told Al-Anba after studies proved that the country has returned to normalcy, the ministry no longer needs continue with this decision.
The sources say the ministry considers the continuation of these decision unfair, especially in light of the current rise in transport and shipping prices globally, not to mention the natural increase in prices around the world, which reaches 5 percent annually. The decision to stabilize prices was urgent at the beginning of the Corona pandemic, but with the end of the crisis there is no longer a need for such decisions.
It is worth noting that the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman, met last week with the president and members of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in the presence of a number of representatives of food companies, to discuss the severe damages caused to the commercial sector by the price-fixing decision and the Minister stated that the ministry is still studying the situation through its specialized committees, with the aim of arriving at the best practices and solutions in public interest and the consumer sector.
