Cdc Chief Endorses Booster Shots Of Pfizer

25 September 2021 Coronavirus

Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rochelle Walensky endorsed on Friday a recommendation for a booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to certain adults and those who work in a high-risk environment.

In a statement, Walensky expressed support to “the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation for a booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in certain adults and also recommended a booster dose for those “in high risk occupational and institutional settings.”

The CDC also recommends that people aged 18-64 years “who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID19 vaccine at least six months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.” “As CDC Director, it is my job to recognize where our actions can have the greatest impact,” Walensky said. “At CDC, we are tasked with analyzing complex, often imperfect data to make concrete recommendations that optimize health.” She added, “in a pandemic, even with uncertainty, we must take actions that we anticipate will do the greatest good.” CDC affirmed it will continue “to monitor the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines to ensure appropriate recommendations to keep all Americans safe.” It added that it will also “evaluate with similar urgency available data in the coming weeks to swiftly make additional recommendations for other populations or people who got the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.” On Friday, CDC advisers recommended certain adults get booster dose of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine.
