Case Against Ministries To Block Netflix
A lawsuit against the ministries of Information and Communication, as well as the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), was filed at the High Court recently; demanding for blocking Netflix in the country, reports Al-Anba daily. The court set May 25 for the 11th Administrative Department to deliberate on the case. Attorney Abdulaziz Al-Subaie, who filed the case, stated that Netflix recently produced and broadcasted an Arab film which provoked a wave of public anger due to its call for moral decadence through several scenes; explaining that this work addresses the Arab family directly and an attempt to change God’s creation.
Al-Subaie indicated that the platform attracts young people with the aim of imposing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on the Arab world. He stressed this is a violation of the teachings of Islam, because the agreement does not criminalize relationships outside marriage. He said a large number of young people are into Netflix, so they could get affected by the contents it provides, particularly those promoting the idea of dissolution and perversion.
