Cabinet Commends Outcome Of Turkeys Oic Jerusalem Summit
The Cabinet lauded on Sunday the outcome of last week’s urgent Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit on Jerusalem, which was held in Istanbul. The Cabinet said in a statement that the gathering had reflected the Muslim world’s supportive stance on issues pertaining to the Palestinian cause. After the Cabinet’s weekly meeting headed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh said that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed his fellow ministers on the outcome of the OIC summit.
The summit, held on Dec 13, saw the Kuwaiti delegation — headed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah strongly condemning the US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the American embassy to the holy city.
Threat
His Highness the Amir called on the US to back down from this unilateral decision, which poses a great threat towards efforts for peace in the Middle East. His Highness the Amir also deemed the decision as a clear violation of all international laws and norms, indicating that it was aimed at changing the very essence of the holy city of Jerusalem.
Kuwait, as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, will coordinate with other Islamic states to make sure that the voice of the OIC on this matter was heard on the international level. Al-Saleh indicated that the Cabinet was informed that the OIC final communique called on the world to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state. The OIC communique also urged the international community to denounce the illegal and irresponsible decision by President Trump, which is deemed as a clear indication of the US bias role in favoring Israelis over Palestinians in the so-called Middle East peace process.
The decision will give legitimacy for Israel to continue its genocidal policies against the Palestinians and it would enable the Zionist state to carry on the expansion of illegal settlements on Palestinian lands.
