27 August 2022 Kuwait

Kuwait's Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) chairman Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmad has issued a decision regarding a regulation for beekeeping, reports Al-Anba daily. The regulation stipulates that the authority shall supervise the profession of beekeeping and work on protecting it, develop plans, programs and guidance services, and cooperate with the relevant authorities in achieving this. The beehives must be at least 50 meters away from the roads used by vehicles.

Depending on the conditions of the concerned authorities, the number of cells should be proportional to the area of the land. The beekeeper is obliged to report any disease or pest that poses a threat to the bee colonies.

In coordination with the concerned authorities, the authority grants permits for imports and exports of bees, feeding materials, and beekeeping tools, monitors the market for bee products, and prohibits the use of chemical pesticides or antibiotics in the flowering season.

In addition to preserving the local bee breed and pastures, the authority will organize beehives and feed operations, and issue licenses for beekeeping, which can only be practiced by citizens, with the exception of employees employed by specialized companies licensed by the authority to care for colonies of bees and to produce products containing them. The regulation mentioned the possibility of creating an electronic platform for the bee system on the Internet, within the PAHW platform or the Sahel platform, to complete all transactions and procedures electronically.
