Bangladeshi Gets Jail, Will Be Ousted In Terror Charge
The Court of Appeals has nullified the verdict of the Court of First Instance that acquitted a Bangladeshi man of attacking the United States and Britain. The court thereby sentenced the defendant to eight months in prison for the act. He also bagged an additional year imprisonment and KD1,000 fine with deportation after serving the term for abusing the use of phone in spreading terrorist ideologies. The Public Prosecution Department charged the defendant for joining a terror group and inviting other people with the intention of using illegitimate means to destroy the government. He allegedly incited the public against the governments of the United States and Britain in a manner that could cause war between the two countries and Kuwait or sever their bilateral ties, indicating he used social media to promote terror activities.
Kuwaiti acquitted: The Traffic Court acquitted a Kuwaiti man of fleeing a police checkpoint and causing material damage to a police patrol team that chased him when he allegedly declined to heed orders to stop. In his defense, Lawyer Zaid Al- Khabbaz argued that the submissions of those officers were illogical and contradicted what actually transpired during the incident. He also pointed to insufficient evidences against his client, stressing the submissions contradicted the technical expert’s report.
