Authorities Seize Two Tons Of Rotten Meat

An attempt by a company to distribute unfit meat to cooperative societies and sales outlets was foiled by the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce.

As reported in Al-Rai newspaper, "oversight inspectors closed a company's headquarters and a meat factory after they found 2.2 tons of meat that appeared to have been tampered with."

It was explained by the sources that “the presence of modern (sticker) printer devices, a computer, and a printer to write down information that includes commercial data and expiration dates strengthens the foundations of the seizure, the violation of consumer protection procedures, and the intention to sell by fraud”. A set of ready-to-use stickers prepared to be placed on meat was also found. This indicates an intention to change the validity data of the products.”

According to the sources, the meat was being distributed and marketed to various sales centers, such as cooperative societies and restaurants. The factory and company were confiscated and referred to the Commercial Prosecution."
