Authorities Denied Reports About Kuwait Is Worst Place For Expats
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning Hind Al-Subaih has denied that Kuwait is the worst place for expatriates . In a press statement, Al-Subaih asserted the report that categorized Kuwait as the worst place for expatriates contradicts the truth, indicating the number of expatriates is increasing every year while the international organizations praised the efforts exerted by the State in protecting the rights of expatriates according to the international criteria.
Al-Subaih said the organization which released the report is not well-known but she quickly added that she respects its work and she had asked about the methodologies used in this regard. She disclosed the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs and Labor are currently scrutinizing the report to determine the criteria used in naming Kuwait as the worst place for expatriates.
She asserted the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the participants in the 105th annual conference of the ILO in Geneva last June commended Kuwait, citing revision of the Labor Law and imposing penalties on those involved in human trafficking as some of the steps taken by Kuwait to protect foreigners.
She said Kuwait signed many treaties on protecting the rights of workers; in addition to the establishment of a shelter for expatriates where health, legal and psychological services are offered to them.
