As part of the fourth phase of the Subiya project, MEED magazine announced that the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy received bids to design and construct a gas-fired power plant using the combined cycle technology with a capacity of 900 megawatts.

According to a local Arabic daily, the deal also includes the delivery and installation of two gas oil tanks with a combined capacity of 15,000 cubic metres, in addition to the supply and installation of turbines and related infrastructure. The project seeks to boost the Subbiya Power Complex's generation capacity by 1,150 MW in addition to what is planned to convert the existing 250 MW simple-cycle plant to a combined-cycle gas turbine system.

There are now $6.9 billion worth of fossil-fired projects being built in Kuwait, according to MEED, which stated that Al-Ghanim International Company finished the simple cycle plant's construction in 2019 and the combined cycle plant's construction in 2020.
