Al Awadhi Launches Anti-cancer Campaign
Dr Ibtihal Al-Awadhi, Secretary of the national campaign ‘CAN’ for increasing awareness about cancer, announced the launch of this year’s campaign for promoting the importance of healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and regular exercise for prevention of colon cancer, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a press statement, she declared that the campaign will be launched in November for two months with the cooperation of Ministry of Health. Dr Al-Awadhi revealed that the preparations for the campaign had started in Feb 2014 through regular meetings with nutritionists, food specialists and dieticians.
She explained that the campaign is aimed to reduce the rate of colon cancer cases in the coming four years especially since this percentage had increased five times among men and four times among women in the last 33 years as per statistics issued by Kuwait Center for Cancer Control.
Dr Al-Awadhi affirmed that 50 percent of the deaths caused by cancer can be avoided by taking proper health decisions such as refraining from smoking, maintaining ideal body weight, consuming healthy nutritious food, exercising regularly and undergoing regular medical checkups.
