A Spanish Expert Warns: People Of The World Will Wear Masks For Two Years

11 October 2020 Coronavirus

While fears of the second wave of the spread of the Corona virus continue, despite optimism about the imminent distribution of vaccines, a prominent Spanish virologist warned that most of the world will likely wear masks for two years.

According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the head of the Spanish National Research Council, Dr. Margarita Del Vall, said: "We will overcome the virus within years, but we do not have to expect this to be a 100-meter race of health."

And just like the United States, Spanish health officials such as Dr. Del Vall have found themselves at odds with warring politicians over how to manage the coronavirus crisis.

Spain is now the worst affected country in Europe, and once again, it has imposed more restrictions in the hope of slowing again the accelerating spread of the Coronavirus.

Masks are required outside the home and gatherings are limited to six people, including sitting groups in restaurants, where occupancy is determined.

Dr. Del Vall's warning is consistent with what was confirmed by American infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci, who last week said during a Facebook live event with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy that even if 75 or 80 percent of the United States were vaccinated, the virus would not be eliminated. Finally, while stressing the need for caution and caution in public health measures.

"I think when people were eating and drinking outside, that's a good thing but they were forgetting a second scale ... either distance or masks," said Dr. Del Vall.

She noted that being in close proximity to other people will remain a problem as long as the virus spreads in the world, although it may be more active with lower temperatures across the northern hemisphere.

When asked about Mill's disregard for the usefulness of masks, she confirmed that masks may be more important than vaccines, at least for the time being.

With so many gaps in the potential coverage a vaccine provides, she said, masks could remain a better tool for some time to come.

"We have to get used to wearing a mask and take some measures for a few years, integrate it into our daily life, and forget about it, and it will turn into something useful," said Del Vall.
