19 June 2022 Crime News

According to a Kuwaiti newspaper, a Kuwaiti man has been arrested for loaning his passport to a stateless Bidoon for the purpose of helping him to seek political asylum.

Al Anba cited a security source as saying that the Bidoon was arrested at the Kuwaiti International Airport for trying to leave for Britain using the other man's passport.

The Bidoon admitted to investigators that he had borrowed the Kuwaiti-issued passport for use in Britain due to a physical resemblance between him and the Kuwaiti citizen, the source added.

According to the Bidoon man, the passport would later be sent back via express mail to its rightful owner.

The source said both suspects will be charged with several crimes, including counterfeiting of official documents and illegal departure from the country.

Kuwait's Bidoon community numbers around 85,000 people and has been dealing with an identity crisis for decades.
