A Kuwaiti Contract To Domestic Workers Is Approved By Ethiopia

18 July 2022 Kuwait

Khaled Al-Dakhnan, the president of the Kuwaiti Federation of Domestic Labor Offices, urged swift execution of the labour pact with Ethiopia. In an interview with a local Arabic newspaper, Al-Dakhnan claimed that the Ethiopian Ambassador to Kuwait had stated that Addis Abeba had accepted the conditions of the Kuwaiti agreement and that they were now awaiting an invitation to sign it.

Al-Dakhnan made the point that the resumption of the hiring of Ethiopian workers will drastically lower the costs of new domestic worker contracts. According to him, the contracts Ethiopia will sign will be less expensive and pay less per month than what is currently available on the job market. In answer, Abdulaziz Al-Ali, the advisor to the Federation, informed the newspaper that discussions regarding the pressing need to sign the agreement with the Ethiopian side had taken place with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Authority for Manpower.

Al-Ali emphasized that certain points had been reached between the Kuwaiti and Ethiopian parties, and that they had been completed and submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Legal Affairs, which we hope will complete its work quickly and sign the agreement. This shows that the Ethiopian labour that will be brought to Kuwait will be qualified and experienced enough.
