The first day after seasonal shrimp fishing was allowed in economic and regional waters after a 5-month prohibition, the fish market in Sharq was bustling with activity as Kuwaiti shrimps were put up for sale. The cost of the shrimp basket was on average 65 dinars. A number of fishermen told the newspaper that the first day's shrimp harvest did not reach 94 baskets and that it was a relatively meagre catch compared to what had previously been sold.

The fishermen stated that the quantity that was provided during the auction was due to the fact that fishing vessels have not yet resumed full operations due to a lack of incentives and a shortage of employees. They emphasized that although fishing would pick up in the next days, the catch will not be as high as in previous years.
