500 Pakistani Medics To Arrive In Kuwait To Fight Covid-19

Around 500 Pakistani doctors, nurses and technicians are due to arrive in Kuwait later this month to support the country’s fight against the new coronavirus, a media report said Sunday.

Their arrival will happen after procedures related to travel and hiring are finalised, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida said, citing health sources “Officials at the Health Ministry are in constant contact with their counterparts in Pakistan to bring the Pakistani medical teams to Kuwait. There has been coordination between the two sides regarding estimations of their salaries,” the sources added without giving details.

Pakistan is among 32 countries from which Kuwait banned flights due to health concerns last month.

The Pakistani medics’ service in Kuwait will be for six months without a kafala (sponsorship) transfer, the sources said.

“The [Health] ministry is studying the possibility of appointing a number of them after their contracts end with the aim of keeping their services in confronting COVID-19,” the sources added.

The dispatch of the Pakistani medics to Kuwait comes under a cooperation agreement signed by health authorities in both countries in July. Kuwait so far has registered a total of 88,963 virus cases and 540 deaths from COVID-19.
