4,500 Expat Teachers' Iqamas Are Renewed By Kuwait

17 July 2022 Expats

A local newspaper reported that Kuwaiti authorities have renewed the residency permits of around 4,500 teachers working in government schools.

According to Al Jarida, passport renewals for teachers in the country's six education zones were finalized starting on June 17.

Sources said teachers had their appointments electronically prior to their transactions.

Each day, fifty teachers are welcomed. Staff at the education departments have been assigned three usernames for renewal transactions by the Interior Ministry," they reported.

Sources say the Education Ministry recently got approval from the Interior Ministry to renew schoolteacher contracts for two years instead of one.

Education departments are now responsible for renewing non-Kuwaiti teachers' Iqamas under the new decentralised system instituted by the Education Ministry.

Al Qabas newspaper reported last month that decentralizing Iqama renewal is an effort to ensure smooth transactions at a time when foreign teachers want to travel home for the summer holiday.

Expat teachers who will be benefited by the new system are not officially counted.
