350 Filipinos Availed Kuwait’s Amnesty On Its First Day
Three hundred Filipinos availed of the amnesty offered by Kuwait to its expat population on the first day of a month long duration. April 1 till 5 of the amnesty period is allocated for Filipinos to settle their legal cases by applying for the amnesty. Cases such as absconding, expired visas, undocumented children, death reports and travel bans are among those considered qualified for the amnesty.
As early as six in the morning, Filipinos lined up outside two schools in Farwaniya and as per the report by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Labor Office and Philippine Embassy stated that 260 female and 70 male Filipinos were able to get through the process and are currently being housed on two different accommodations in preparation for their flights to the Philippines scheduled on the 3rd and 5th of April.
However, 21 male Filipinos were denied of exit due to the gravity of their cases which involved incurred personal loans, unpaid bills in internet and mobile phones, appliances, bank loans and cases filed by their employers such as breach of trust, theft and more. They were sent home and requested to settle their individual cases. Some were contested by applicants such as paid bills but are still existent in the system, illegal tampering of interests by loan sharks and companies which resulted in exorbitant bills which resulted in cases of arrests and repeated incarcerations by some. OWWA, POLO and the Philippine Embassy vowed to follow up on their cases. The five days of partial amnesty for Filipinos hope to gather more applicants towards the last day of the week.
Applicants to the partial amnesty of Kuwait may proceed to Salma Bin Hamza School for Girls and Muthana Primary School for Boys located in the Block 1 of Farwaniya. Processing of documents are from 9 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon and are requested to bring their passport (updated or expired) or copy. For those who are not in possession of their passport, they may bring 4 passport size pics with blue background and travel documents will be processed on the spot. Applicants are also requested to bring their luggage and should they qualify are transported to shelters provided for until scheduled flights on the 3rd and 5th of April.
The Philippine Embassy urges all Filipinos with existing cases and are qualified to avail the amnesty to not waste the opportunity. It also extends its gratitude to Kuwait for their generosity and kindness to Filipinos.
