30 Expats Dismiss From The Justice Ministry

01 September 2022 Kuwait

As part of Kuwait's efforts to provide jobs for its citizens, the Justice Ministry has terminated the services of 30 expatriates in the first group.

Al Qabas newspaper reported that Justice Minister Jamal Al Jallawi unveiled a plan to "kuwaitize" jobs and empower citizens.

It added that the minister's directives include the need to terminate contracts of non-Kuwaiti workers in jobs covered by a replacement plan under a 2017 decree issued by the Civil Service Commission. It was not immediately clear how many expatriates will be replaced at the ministry.

With the aim of redressing its demographic imbalance, Kuwait has increased its efforts to create jobs for its citizens under a policy called "Kuwaitisation".

There have been increasing calls in Kuwait for curbing foreign employment as well as accusations that migrant workers have strained the country's infrastructure facilities amid the economic repercussions of COVID-19.
