Un Official States Kuwait Remains Example Of Security, Peace, Humanity

24 February 2021 Kuwait

Director of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) Office in Kuwait Dr. Samer Haddadin sincerely congratulated the wise leadership of Kuwait and its people on the occasion of the 60th National Day and 30th Liberation Day.

Regarding this, Haddadin said in a press statement Wednesday that Kuwait has a consistent approach and solid principle in the global diplomatic landscape in supporting humanitarian crises, as it has always been an example of security, peace and humanity, adding that it has been a strategic partner of UNHCR since the opening of its office in 1991. Kuwait and its wise leadership have a major role in relieving the Syrian and Yemeni refugees’ crisis, thus mobilizing support, devising strategies and creating optimal solutions to meet urgent humanitarian needs, he pointed out.

He underlined UNHCR’s keenness to strengthen this 30-year-old strategic partnership and to address the humanitarian challenges that made it more complex by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kuwait has contributed to supporting the activities of UNCHR in many countries such as Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iran, since 2013, with about USD 430 million, he said, indicating that Kuwait was a prominent and effective member of UNCHR’s major club donors until 2020, and this is not shocking for a country that is a center for global humanitarian action.

Haddadin wished further progress and prosperity for Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
