Two Nepali Workers Died; One Indian Survived At The Airport Landslide Accident

Two workers died and another one managed to survive after they were buried under sand at the construction site of Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2, the fire department said on Wednesday.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening by 3:15 when a sand slide occurred at the new Kuwait Airport T2 project under construction area.

Three workers were trapped inside the sand slide, and the fire brigade rushed to the spot and started the rescue operations. The sand slide was about 10 meters deep.

The two people who died are identified as Nepali nationals, and the Indian who was was engulfed by sand survived his life. The rescue operations lasted more than 4 hours.

The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Affairs, Dr. Rana Al-Faris, Chief of the General Fire Brigade, Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Makrad, Undersecretary of Works M. Walid Al-Ghanim, Director of the Airports Fire Department, Brigadier Muhammad Ali, Director of the Airport Projects Implementation Department M. Mai Al-Massaad, a number of leaders of the General Fire Force and the Ministries of Interior and Works inspected the site. Minister Dr. Rana Al-Faris ordered an inquiry and requested to submit the report within a week.
