03 June 2021 Education

The Corona Emergency Committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali, has approved the request of Kuwait Union of the Owners of Private Schools and Cultural Institutes to allow the entry of expatriate teachers and support staff in these schools and institutes, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources. Sources clarified this is similar to the decision issued earlier on allowing the Ministry of Education to facilitate procedures for the entry of expatriate teachers and support staff in public schools.

Sources affirmed the necessary steps will be taken before the next school year begins with the commitment to strictly comply with regulations enforced at Kuwait International Airport and the circulars approved by the Ministry of Health. Sources disclosed no other expatriate workers in the private sector have been allowed to enter the country so far; indicating the regulations and procedures that will be applied towards this direction are based on several factors, particularly those related to health. Sources affirmed the committee continues to work on this in an organized manner, including family reunification. Asked about the possible date when the excluded groups will be allowed to enter, sources said the committee set Aug 1 for the return of expatriate teachers only. On the mechanism for teachers to return to the country – whether through direct flights or transit, sources disclosed work permits will be issued for public and private schools teachers who are stranded abroad and they will be required to stay in transit countries.
