Speaker Al-ghanim Announces Session Postponed Until Next Week After 5 Mps Test Positive

15 September 2020 Kuwait

National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim announced the postponement of the regular parliament session scheduled for Tuesday, and Wednesday, to the same two days of the following week, with all MPs to be tested next Saturday. This was brought up in a press statement by Al-Ghanim in the National Assembly on Monday, after the end of the council’s office meeting, which was held to take a decision based on the letter of Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Bassel Al-Sabah, in which he recommended canceling the session after two MPs were infected with COVID-19.

Al-Ghanim indicated that thus far, more than five MPs have been infected with the coronavirus, while not all MPs have been examined, hoping a swift recovery to all. He mentioned that their past sessions were held for three consecutive days, clearly there was some kind of spread, therefore in order to make sure if the representatives or employees of the Council of Ministers General Secretariat are infected or not, swab tests must take place next Saturday, as this is determined by the health authorities.

Al-Ghanim said on Sunday, that he would present the letter of the health minister to the council’s office to take whatever he deems appropriate regarding the session, which he had previously gathered to hold to complete consideration of the agenda items.
