Salaries For All Domestic Workers Should Be Equal : Bassam Al-shimmari
Ethiopian delegation arrived in the country to discuss modalities of signing a memorandum of understanding with government agencies on the subject of foreign domestic workers recruited from Addis Ababa.
A specialist in this field told a local Arabic newspaper that the frequent discrepancy in monthly salaries of domestic workers is a deadly mistake that threatens employment in this sector, particularly since multiple nationalities work in one house and receive different salaries.
According to al-Shammari, that policy that dictates domestic workers' monthly salaries based on their nationality must be changed, which is reflected in the recruitment process in general, reducing the number of domestic workers who will work in Kuwait, emphasizing that equality in salaries for workers doing similar work constitutes one of the most important reasons why Kuwait should streamline employment in this sector to ensure that no group feels neglected or discriminated against
"Government agencies are deceiving citizens by reducing the costs of recruiting domestic workers and their salaries, however, they are unaware of the negative consequences in the long run, which threatens to stop recruitment completely, especially since local companies and offices will be unable to cover their expenses."
Despite some employers' refusal to hire workers from certain African nationalities, Al-Shammari said that African workers are just like their counterparts with other nationalities, and they must be treated with kindness and not underestimated in order to avoid trouble.
