Regulatory Authority And Commerce Ministry Partner On Digital Oversight
An agreement and memorandum of understanding have been reached between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority. Nasser Al-Mutawa from the Ministry of Commerce and Abdullah Al-Ajmi from the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority signed the agreement to facilitate blocking and unblocking of electronic content.
This agreement specifies the specifics of services related to blocking or unblocking social media accounts, websites, and electronic applications. It defines the expected service levels for each category, identifies the responsibilities of the Ministry of Commerce, and lays out the procedure for requesting content blocks or lifts. As part of the agreement, all parties are outlined their roles and responsibilities.
Collaboration between government entities serves the public interest through this collaborative effort. It is expected that the agreement will strengthen the Ministry of Commerce's supervision role, especially in addressing electronic risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and consumer protection. Blocking or lifting content adheres to Kuwait's existing laws and regulations, aligned with the standards set by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
