Pet-mri, The Latest Device For Imaging Infections And Tumors Launched By Moh
According to Al-Rai daily, the Ministry of Health has inaugurated the latest tumor and inflammation imaging device (PET/MRI), which is the first in Kuwait and one of the most accurate examination devices with a high diagnostic value in radiology, a major development in the field.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Shaheen, head of Jahra Hospital's Nuclear Medicine Department, told Kuwait News Agency that the device is the latest technology in nuclear imaging and diagnostics. To evaluate and diagnose cases, it uses positron emission imaging and magnetic resonance imaging.
It provides accurate images of tissues using magnetic resonance images as well as accurate determination of metabolic activity of cells, resulting in a more accurate diagnosis than either examination alone.
As part of the celebration, the hospital's head of medical physics unit, Dr. Mishari Al-Naimi, announced that a workshop would be held on (positron imaging technology combined with magnetic resonance imaging). In cooperation with the Medical Physics Unit and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Department of Nuclear Medicine will introduce this technology and its most important applications with experts from Germany and Austria.
In addition to combining the advantages of magnetic resonance imaging with positron imaging, Al-Naimi explained that this advanced technology will be discussed at the workshop, allowing accurate detection and early diagnosis of tumors, neurological diseases, and vascular diseases, as well as reducing radiation exposure by as much as 70 percent compared to other radiation examinations.
On behalf of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Nader Al-Awadhi, the agency's national liaison officer, stressed the agency's interest in training workers in nuclear technologies as well as how positron imaging can be used in conjunction with magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose illnesses.
Al-Awadhi said that this technology relies on the use of medical radioactive materials used to diagnose and treat diseases, as well as on their ability to emit radiation, which can be used to make images of the body or to kill cancer cells.
He explained that the workshop aims to exchange information about the uses of positron imaging combined with magnetic resonance imaging and raise awareness for relevant authorities about the potential and expected contribution of this modern technology and ways to benefit from it and circulate it to nuclear medicine centers in Kuwait.
