Automatic Cancellation Of Visa If Overstaying More Than 6 Months Outside Kuwait

12 February 2022 Kuwait

Holders of Article 22 (dependent visa), Article 18 (who work in the private sector), and Article 24 (a self-sponsor) will have six months to enter the country before the General Department of Residency Affairs reintroduces the six-month rule of automatic cancellation of the work permit for those who stay outside the country for six months or more.

According to Al-Anba daily, citing an official source, the Ministry of Interior will issue a decision soon specifying the start of the deadline, which the sources say is appropriate because it gives enough time for expatriate university students to visit their families, as the school year ends in June and resumes in September.

According to the source, the citizen or resident has the authority to renew the residence permit of individuals on their sponsorship when they are outside the nation; therefore the online renewal of residency for those outside the country is still in effect.

This and other planned efforts, according to the source, are contingent on improving the epidemiological situation locally and worldwide, with the option of discontinuing this or other measures if new Coronavirus mutations emerge.

It's important to note that the Ministry of Interior took a similar step last December with regard to domestic workers, announcing the resumption of the automatic cancellation of domestic workers' residence permits (Article 20) if they stayed outside the country for more than 6 months, effective December 1, 2021.
