The Secretary- General of Arab Federation for Drug Abuse Prevention Dr Khalid Al-Saleh reported a significant increase in the number of drug abusers in the country according to the latest statistics.

Al-Saleh pointed out 1,440 drug abusers and traffickers were arrested during 2016, and 40 cases of death as a result of an overdose were recorded until October 2017, in addition to 7 cases of suicide. This figure is up by 30 percent from last year’s count. This was disclosed during the opening speech of the workshop which was held under the slogan ‘Drug Relationship with Extremism and Terrorism’, which was held under the auspices of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Subeeh.

The workshop was organized by the General Secretariat of the Arab Federation for Drug Abuse Prevention in cooperation with the Kuwait Society for Preventing Smoking and Cancer (KSSCP) and was attended by specialists from Kuwait and Egypt. Al-Saleh stressed terrorists heavily depend on brainwashing young people. He pointed out the Arab Federation for Drug Abuse Prevention has developed a strategy which was presented to the Arab League several years ago. It shows how young people are being controlled by drugs, thus they are used as time bombs to destroy the future of our countries and our nation.
