Mps Care About Interests Of Kuwait, Citizens - Al-ghanim

11 January 2018 Kuwait

Kuwaiti lawmakers have stressed the need to preserve the country and citizens' interests, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said on Wednesday.

Following the end of the parliament's supplementary regular session today, Al-Ghanim said in remarks to reporters that it was "long but fruitful".

MPs approved a bill on the amendment of some provisions of the Kuwait Municipality law and set regulations for the next elections, he added.

They discussed a request on constitutional grounds of imprisoning MPs convicted in the case of storming the parliament's building, he noted.

Al-Ghanim affirmed that the discussions ended with the agreement on expediting the parliamentary legislative and legal affairs committee to fulfill two reports, in a period not exceeding 30 days, on neither imprisoning MPs, nor depriving civil servants of social allowances nor dismissing them by power without a final judicial verdict.

He said the parliament dealt with draft proposals on lowering retirement age and barring interests on loans by the Public Institution for Social Security.

He indicated that MPs also listened to a detailed presentation by Minister of Finance, and to the technical view in this regard. The top lawmaker pointed out that MPs want to verify the figures provided by the Public Institution for Social Security pertaining to this dossier.

He also revealed that a request was submitted to the parliament's office to choose a global company of actuarial calculations to provide him with reports, amendments and ideas wanted by the lawmakers.

He pointed out that the step aims at obtaining reports on methods applied in developed countries regarding this point so as to benefit both retirees and employees.
