Faisal Al-Ghareeb, Kuwait's Minister of Justice, Awqaf, and Islamic Affairs, reiterated the nation's staunch dedication to combating human trafficking through robust legal frameworks and protective measures for victims. Speaking during the fifth session of the Middle East forum to combat human trafficking, hosted by Muscat, Oman, Al-Ghareeb underscored Kuwait's proactive approach towards addressing this global challenge.

Kuwait has taken significant strides in its fight against human trafficking, exemplified by the enactment of Law No. 91 in 2013, which specifically targets human trafficking and immigrant smuggling. Al-Ghareeb highlighted the government's commitment to implementing a comprehensive national strategy focused on prevention, protection, and international cooperation. This strategy includes the establishment of a permanent national committee tasked with its implementation, comprising representatives from relevant national authorities.

Furthermore, Kuwait has made notable progress in enhancing victim support mechanisms, including the establishment of a shelter for female expatriate workers. Al-Ghareeb emphasized that individuals seeking refuge in the shelter are welcomed without any prerequisites, ensuring immediate access to accommodations and necessary support services.

Al-Ghareeb emphasized the importance of international collaboration in combating human trafficking, citing partnerships with organizations such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for the GCC region. Kuwait is actively working towards strengthening these partnerships through the development of formal agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination.

Expressing condolences to Oman for recent natural disasters and gratitude for hosting the forum, Al-Ghareeb proposed several recommendations for advancing the fight against human trafficking. These include establishing a technical working group to implement forum recommendations effectively and leveraging the experiences of participating countries to improve labor inspection procedures, coordination mechanisms, and community awareness initiatives.
