Kuwaitis Are No Longer Subject To Security Restrictions

05 November 2022 Kuwait

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has ordered the abolition of security restrictions for citizens as part of a series of reform decisions. The move was welcomed by the Parliament and the people, as it demonstrated Al-Khaled's desire to resolve citizens' problems, reports Al-Rai daily. "The decision is to strengthen the process of correcting the path, support freedom of expression, and consolidate the rule of law that guarantees citizen rights," the Ministry of Interior announced.

This comes in compliance with Article 36 of the Constitution, which states: “Freedom of opinion is guaranteed, and every person has the right to express his opinion and publish it verbally or in writing or otherwise, in accordance with the terms and conditions specified by law.” Al-Khaled thanked the political leadership for its blessing, guidance, and support for the steps to correct the course, while the Ministry of the Interior stressed the “cancellation of any requirements or reservations that would diminish the rights of citizens, with the need to adhere to all procedures related to final judicial rulings.”

In accordance with the law and the Constitution, the ministry expressed confidence in citizens exercising responsible freedom that is compatible with the public interest and security and stability of Kuwait. The deputies praised Al-Khaled's move, considering it a gesture that enhances confidence in the Ministry of Interior and those in charge of it, as well as confirming Al-Khaled's interest in citizens and his keenness to solve their problems.

The representative, Issa Al-Kandari, commended and appreciated Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled's decision to cancel security reservations that diminish and destroy citizens' rights. In his words, "May God bless your efforts with regards to creating a committee to monitor the progress of the procedures and receive grievances to ensure that the path is corrected." As for MP Dr. Abdul-Karim Al-Kandari, he said it is “a gesture that strengthens our confidence in the Interior Ministry and those responsible for it.” He added that a security restriction does not have any legal basis and violates the presumption of innocence, and that it is appreciated. Until proven guilty, everyone is innocent. Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, Minister of Interior, is greatly appreciated."
