Kuwaiti Government Donates $2 Million To Ukraine And $5 Million To Afghanistan

The Cabinet, led by His Highness the Premier Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, said in its weekly meeting on Monday that, on the orders of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and in light of humanitarian fallout and refugee influx, USD five million will be donated to Afghanistan and another USD two million to Ukraine via relevant UN agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Cabinet was briefed by the recent visits of Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the country, according to Foreign Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. Both held talks with His Highness the Amir on bilateral relations, current regional and international affairs, as well as issues of mutual interest.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, and Acting Defense Minister addressed the Cabinet on the 26th EU-GCC council ministerial meeting, which took place recently in Brussels. During the meeting, participants discussed ways to improve cooperation on regional and global challenges, as well as issues of common interest that require discussion and exchange of views, such as partnership, trade, education, health, climate change, environmental protection, renewable energy resources, and cyber security, among other topics.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's Foreign Minister and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, and Acting Defense Minister, also briefed the Cabinet on his meeting with Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sophie Willems on the sidelines of the 26th EU-GCC council ministerial meeting.

In addition to reviewing current regional and international developments, the meeting discussed bilateral relations and methods to strengthen them in several domains to accomplish joint objectives of the two countries.

The Cabinet then followed up on the latest developments in the Coronavirus epidemic, hearing a briefing from the Minister of Commerce and Industry and the Acting Minister of Health Fahad Al-Shuraiaan on the subject. It expressed relief on the general decrease in numbers.

It then proceeded over the items on the National Assembly's agenda for the coming session, as well as expressing sincere condolences on the death of Dr. Ahmad Al-Khatib, whose contributions to the country were most valuable throughout his career, particularly in parliamentary work, through his membership in the Constituent Assembly and beyond.

Follow-up on the State's yearly plan was also discussed during the meeting (from April 1 to December 31, 2021).

It also discussed recent Arab, regional, and international developments, as well as criticizing the terrorist bombing of a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan, which killed or maimed dozens of worshipers.

The Cabinet expressed its support for all steps taken by the friendly Islamic Republic of Pakistan to ensure security and stability while requesting mercy on the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured. KUNA –
