Kuwaiti Citizen Acquitted, Verdict Upheld

10 February 2022 Crime News

The Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of human trafficking, forcing victims to waive the dues, money laundering, forging bank notes, and theft was acquitted by the Court of Cassation.

It was reported by the Public Prosecution that the citizen and others were accused of human trafficking, coercing workers to waive their rights to compensation, illegally confiscating their passports, forging of bank documents, stealing from the company employees' bank accounts, and money laundering in exchange for helping bring the victims to Kuwait.

The lawyer representing the first defendant at the Criminal Court, Dr. Fawaz Al-Khatib, emphasized that there was no accusation against his client, and that the information included in the incrimination did not apply to the facts attributed to him, which indicated that there has been no criminal intent. Because the workers frequently travel overseas, and since their wages are in line with the decision related to the minimum wage, the accusation regarding the confiscation of their passports does not match what is stated in the official papers. It is considered a civil dispute when wages and salaries due to workers are not paid. In the papers, it has not been proven that workers are forced to work for low wages using coercion specified by law, which is not less than the minimum wage established in the private sector.
