Kuwait Committed To Support The Rule Of Law
Kuwait’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative at International Organizations in Vienna Sadiq Marafi said on Wednesday that the Kuwaiti participation in 27th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is based on commitment to backing the rule of law.
Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of the session, Marafi stressed the importance of boosting regional and international cooperation to combat organized crime, terrorism as well as crimes related to electronic and cultural properties.
He referred to the importance of Kuwait’s membership of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice for a three-year term, which will start as of January 2019.
He noted that Kuwait, along with Iraq, Iran, India and Thailand, was elected by member states of the social and economic council during meetings on the election of members of the council’s technical committees in New York.
He affirmed that Kuwait, through its membership, will work on implementing its foreign policy to live up its to highly-appreciated status in different fields, promoting international cooperation, gaining benefits and experiences and contributing effectively to the commission’s actions in line with applied international laws, especially Kuwait joined, and approved, most of relevant international agreements.
The Kuwaiti diplomat pointed out that the topics of this session’s agenda discuss measures of criminal justice so as to prevent cybercrimes in all its forms through enhancing cooperation on both regional and international levels.
The agenda also covers preparatory actions for the 14th UN conference on crime prevention and criminal justice to be hosted by Japan in 2020, he revealed.
Director General of Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport Engineer Ahmad Al-Hissan said the authority has completed the foundation laying for the new site of Shamlan Al-Roumi Mosque, which is included in phase two of the First Ring Road upgrading project, reports Al-Jarida daily.
In a statement, Engineer Al-Hissan declared the authority embarked on the project immediately after securing the necessary authorization from concerned authorities. He hopes for completion and inauguration of the mosque before the end of this year.
He noted the authority recently inaugurated Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Street project opposite Souq Sharq, which is also an aspect of phase two of the First Ring Road project. He anticipated the inauguration of a bridge close to Dasman Palace within the same project before the end of the year.
He reiterated the project has three other bridges and tunnels under construction where workers are working assiduously to ensure their inauguration at various times in 2019, indicating all projects related to the First Ring Road are expected to be completed before the end of 2019.
