Kuwait blocked 139 citizen and resident Internet websites in 2021 for public morality violations, fraud, property rights violations, privacy violations, and electronic phishing.

According to official figures released by the Communications and Information Technology Commission, the authority received and issued 323 requests and decisions to block or unblock websites in the past year, including 140 requests to block websites and 139 actual websites being blocked. It also received requests to lift the block on 23 websites and has effectively lifted the ban on 21 websites, according to a local Arabic daily.

According to the newspaper, 58 percent of the commission's actions related to blocking or lifting the block on Kuwaiti websites occurred between July and September 2021, according to sources. Out of the total websites that were prohibited during the year, 80 were blocked during the three months.
