Home Internet Services Are Now The Cheapest In Kuwait
He said the home internet services in the country are now the cheapest in the region following the recent cost deduction of about 40 percent. Al-Utheina affirmed the commitment of the authority to monitor service providers and ensure they are offering their services to the consumers based on the new prices and with high quality. He explained that the authority will have to examine the offers provided by service providers in order to ensure these offers are in line with the regulations.
There are several opportunities in the internet sector and there are new markets which will be opened in the sector, even though he finds the issuance of new licenses for internet companies improbable.
Concerning the privatization of the communication sector, Al-Utheina indicated about some serious moves being taken by Ministry of Services to privatize the communication sector, which consists of four main sectors – landlines, international lines, fixed phones and international switchboards. He explained that separate companies for each of these sectors will be established. The companies will operate on commercial basis. At first, they will be owned 100 percent by the government, and later, after the government deliberates on the issue, they will be floated for public subscription.
