A group of Kuwaiti medical students defended a professor who was accused of showing alleged pornographic images at a lecture, according to a local paper.

Detractors urged the professor to be expelled after he showed the allegedly explicit images earlier this month.

There have been some 126 responses to the video at Kuwait University's Medical School, where the incident is believed to have occurred. The students referred to the video as exaggerated and said that it did not violate public morals.

In a signed statement, they said that the challenged video was an illustration used at a lecture on an illness called borderline personality disorder.

Our statement denounces the act of colleagues who turned to external parties for public discussion of the issue when members of the batch can directly communicate with university administrators," the statement reads, according to the Al Jarida paper.

"We reaffirm our trust in the investigation committee to reveal the details of the incident fairly and impartially without compromising academic freedom."

After a preacher accused the lecturer of moral corruption for displaying pornographic material to female and male medical students, the incident became the center of controversy.

Kuwaiti lawmakers also called for the professor's suspension over the incident.
