30 January 2021 International

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced after a meeting of the Defense Council that his country would ban entry and departure of all travelers from outside the European Union, except for compelling reasons.

“Entry to France and to leave our lands for countries outside the European Union will be prohibited, unless there are compelling reasons,” he said.

“This rule will come into effect on the first of next February,” he added.

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron decided not to impose a complete quarantine in the country, and indicated the need to tighten curfews in addition to closing the borders with outside the European Union.

Macron stressed the importance of tightening control over arrivals from within the Union by compulsory negative examinations for the (PCR) test, and intensifying testing and vaccination campaigns in the country.
