Curfew Likely To Continue During Eid Holidays
With the corona index continuing to record high rates of infections, deaths and intensive care cases a plan is currently on the Cabinet table to continue implementing partial curfew until the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan if the situation does not improve after April 8 — the last day of the current partial curfew, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources from the security sector. Sources hinted on the possibility of imposing total curfew during Eid Al-Fitr holidays, clarifying this has not been tabled for discussion yet.
Meanwhile, health sector sources told the daily that the second shipment of AstraZeneca- Oxford vaccine — estimated at 150,000 doses — will arrive in the country within the next few days. Sources pointed out that like other countries, Kuwait is also affected by the high demand and fierce global competition to obtain a large share of the vaccine.
Sources hope the Oxford vaccine shipments will arrive periodically — an interval of about two weeks, stressing that “the safety and effectiveness of vaccines are as per advanced health standards; while the use of unapproved vaccines will not happen internationally even if there is a delay in the pace of vaccination for some time “.
Corona Supreme Advisory Committee Chairman Dr Khaled Al-Jarallah confirmed that coronavirus is still spreading in all governorates, citing results of the random survey conducted by epidemiological surveillance teams, reports Al-Rai daily. He pointed out that the continuation of non-compliance with health regulations has increased the rate of infection, indicating the current situation entails the partial curfew will continue until after the holy month of Ramadan. He said the monopoly of vaccines approved by producing countries slows down the vaccination process, asserting there is no point in using unapproved vaccines just to increase the vaccination rate.
