Covid-19: Oman To Get Half A Million Vaccine Doses Soon: Official
Oman will receive half a million doses of COVID-19 vaccines after Eid holidays, a top Ministry of Health (MoH) official was quoted as saying.
Oman has been vaccinating up to 40,000 people daily before the Eid holidays. The vaccination will resume when the break ends on July 24.
The major vaccination drive has covered almost 38 per cent of Oman’s population.
The total lockdown, meanwhile, resulted in bringing the number of COVID-19 cases down. The MoH official has indicated that during August and September the Sultanate will receive close to three million vaccine doses.
The vaccination campaign will be stepped up when it resumes and would see more than the 40,000 daily average. The government assigned centres had started vaccination of those above 18 years few weeks ago that saw steady crowds of Omani youth wanting to get inoculated at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
While the government centres offer free vaccination for Omanis, expatriates can get the shots from private clinics on paying a certain fee. The private clinics are administering AstraZeneca for walk in individuals, with Pfizer BioNTech vaccine strictly only for corporate and company staff, that have tied-in with the Ministry of Health. Sputnik is offered free of cost for medical and health field staff at most of the private clinics.
