Court Acquitted A Kuwaiti Couple Of Causing Permanent Disability To A Housemaid
The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a Kuwaiti woman and her husband of causing permanent disability to a housemaid, which affected almost 25 percent of her body function. The case file indicated the victim had been working for the second suspect and his wife (first suspect) since 2011, alleging the first suspect consistently maltreated her for three years to the point of torturing her with pressing iron, iron rod and cable in different parts of the body.
The plaintiff claimed the couple restrained her from leaving the house to prevent her from lodging a complaint against them. Later, she managed to escape from the house to lodge a complaint supported by medical report that showed burns, fractures and bruises all over her body.
The report established about 25 percent permanent disability. Lawyer Bashar Al-Nassar defending the accused countered the allegations, and argued that the plaintiff couldn’t have endured victimization for three years without any means of absconding, and thereafter, finds a way out of the blue.
He pointed out that the plaintiff could only report the incident 19 days after absconding, and wondered where the victim stayed for those days. He concluded the step of lodging a complaint against his clients was an afterthought based on malicious allegations.
