Court Acquits Businessman Of Issuing Dud Cheques
The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Mohammad Al-Mutairi dismissed a case filed against a businessman who was accused of issuing two dud cheques for KD 1.250 million. The court instead acquitted him.
The defense counsel Lawyer Abdulrahman Al-Watri urged the court to not accept the lawsuit due to lack of penal protection set by the Penal Code on the two cheques.
He explained that the plaintiff obtained the two cheques illegally after which he went to the bank and got the cheques signed of being not cashable in order to blackmail his client.
He then filed a case against his client. Lawyer Al-Watri stressed that the issuance of a cheque does not necessitate payment, proving that with the case papers which made the accusations baseless.
Following the issuance of the verdict, Lawyer Al-Watri expressed his delight that the verdict was in favor of his client, who is one of the biggest traders in Kuwait, is quite respected and is law-abiding. Indicating that these allegations will tarnish his client’s image, he affirmed that he will demand compensation for his client over such baseless allegations.
