‘control Social Media Use’ – ‘parental Guidance Must’
The case of the Kuwaiti citizen, who was recently arrested after being accused of inciting children to commit suicide through social media, has once again opened the door to the imminent dangers of young people using smartphones without parental control, which is another crime against children.
Neglecting children, lack of parents’ supervision and awareness over them could lead them to become victims of those who incite them to commit wrong acts to the extent of death or moral deviation, reports Al-Qabas daily The daily had previously opened the file of video games and electronic games and their dangers, which pushed many children to death around the world.
The electronic risks to children have increased with the technical development that has been ongoing. Kuwaiti children are no longer isolated from these dangers, and a decisive pause is required to strengthen supervision over children as well as tighten penalties and update legislation. While the statistics issued by the security authorities reveal the occurrence of 80 crimes related to inciting children to violate public order and behavioral deviation through communication means, legal professionals stressed that the current legislation is not sufficient to protect children from online risks.
Specialists in education and psychology explained that the incitement to commit suicide is not the first of its kind and will not be the last. There are malicious groups that encourage children to die by suicide in several ways, and lead them to end their lives for hidden goals. These criminals are polarizing children with tricks and various methods, including giving them virtual rewards to entice them to obey those who communicate with them via these suspicious sites.
Hundreds of children ended their lives around the world due to online games and through incitement by evil gangs that targeted young people in the year 2020. The Gulf countries were not isolated from that, due to which a decisive pause is required.
