23 January 2022 Weather in Kuwait

Meteorologist Muhammad Karam expected the brief cold weather that lashed the country last weekend will continue today, Sunday, and that it will ease as of tomorrow, Monday, pointing out that the maximum temperature in Kuwait City and its suburbs during the past three days ranged between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius, while Salmi recorded at dawn Saturday two degrees below zero.

Karam told Al-Rai the minimum temperature recorded at dawn last Friday in Salmi was zero degrees Celsius, and at dawn on Saturday two degrees below zero, while the Mutriba region recorded zero degrees Celsius, while in some areas it reached minus 4 degrees Celsius.

Karam pointed out the direction of the northwest winds will continue tomorrow, with the maximum temperature continuing during the next three days, between 15 and 17 degrees. Until Thursday, the temperature is expected to remain below 20 degrees Celsius, while the weather nights will be cold, at times reaching below 8 degrees Celsius in the interior, and dropping to less than 5 degrees in open areas.

A number of weather observers expect a noticeable decrease in the minimum temperature to reach between 4 to 2 degrees below zero, with a chance of frost formation on the agricultural and wilderness areas, Jahra, Sabah Al-Ahmad residential city and residential abundance, while the perceived temperature is expected to drop to 7 degrees below zero in open areas.

Informed sources in Meteorology Department revealed that the administration obtained the approval of the regulatory authorities to establish a new network consisting of 38 automatic monitoring stations (21 land, 12 marine and 5 agricultural), explaining that “for compelling reasons, the current network that was established in 2005, was not replaced. There have been plans to replace it for years.”

The sources stated that “the administration has large vital projects for development, including the installation of mobile radar, early warning systems for sandstorms, meteorological devices for runways, devices for measuring atmospheric elements in the upper atmosphere, devices for monitoring lightning, air pollution measurement, and updating the official website and application of KuwaitMet.”
