Barr Al-subbiya Project Vanished In Thin Air Amid Change Of Governments
The file of the tourism sector in the country does not require much effort to find examples that show the inability to establish projects, perhaps the most prominent of which is the SME ‘Barr Al-Subbiya’ project, which shows how far-fetched “entertainment” in the country seems to be.
The details of the project date back to last August, when the Council of Ministers at the time considered a recommendation to prepare a temporary area of land in the Subbiya area to attract youth recreational projects. However, in reality, the delay resulted in clinical death for the entire project.
Although the announcement of the project was a glimmer of hope for reviving domestic tourism in the country, especially in light of the Corona crisis, which undoubtedly reduced the desire to travel, people hoped for a ‘winter’ entertainment under government sponsorship, and after many of them got prepared to spend their fun time amidst projects such as food courts and drive-in cinemas and a shooting range, they are surprised that the project remains ink on paper and winter season begin to wane.
Responsible sources explained the reasons for the delay saying the project was not a priority, pointing out the resignation of the government added to the delay in establishing the project and add to this the formation of the new government, which helped the project to vanish in thin air.
The sources indicated that allocating the land for the project in Barr Al-Subbiya witnessed a delay as well, as the allocation of the land was not approved until last December, that is, 4 months after the Council of Ministers assigned the project to the concerned authorities.
Sources indicated to Al-Qabas that companies and owners of small and medium enterprises expressed their desire to participate and welcomed the project, during a marketing tour organized by some sectors in charge of establishing the project, but due to the change in weather and the approaching end of the winter season, it is not possible to talk about the establishment of the project in the current season, noting that preparations will be in place for the next season, confirming the existence of two schemes that have been prepared for the project.
Some components of the project according to the scheme included a Bicycle track, Cinema, Drive-in Cinema, A shooting range, Celebrations and festivals area, Toys land, Show lights and festivals, Video Games, Mobile cart shops and kiosks, Car racing circuit, Renting and teaching horse riding, Football, and beach volleyball fields.
4 obstacles that mar the project
1 – Allocation of land area
2 – Preparing the land for the project
3 – Documentary cycle
4- Changing governments
