Abdullah Al-shatti Arrested Recently By The Turkish Security Authorities For Smuggling Relics

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Turkey Ghassan Al-Zawawi stated the embassy is following up the issue of Kuwaiti citizen Abdullah Al-Shatti arrested recently by the Turkish security authorities for smuggling relics of the Ottoman period.

Al-Zawawi said the embassy communicated news about the arrest in Ankara to his family and the embassy lawyer has since embarked on relevant legal procedures.

He added the embassy received phone calls from several senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the latest development of the case, and called upon the media to exercise caution on the issue’s coverage due to its sensitive nature.

Al-Shatti was arrested in Ankara on the accusation of smuggling relics of the Ottoman regime and bloggers say Al-Shatti was arrested in possession of nine coins, which the airport authorities said were from the Ottoman regime. He admitted buying each coin for $30.
