A Rainy Season Emergency Plan Has Been Activated By The Ministry Of Works
As part of its preparations for the rainy season, the Ministry of Works raised the state of readiness to its peak, according to a circular by the Undersecretary, Eng. Mohamed Ben Nakhi.
A local Arabic daily reports that employees were required to follow all instructions issued by the committee without consulting their direct officials, and were forbidden from making any media statements during a state of emergency except through the Public Relations Department director working with the committee.
Based on informed sources, the contract for the maintenance and operation of tunnel stations, estimated at 3.1 million dinars, is about to be signed shortly after the Audit Bureau reviews its details, adding that it could be signed within a month to extend its contract for three years.
In the meantime, the Roads Authority is cleaning the tunnel stations and making sure the power supply is safe and the pumps can operate during rainy times. This maintenance work is being carried out until the new contract is signed.
According to sources within the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, the authority will soon begin replacing manhole covers on highways with new articulated manholes that are difficult to steal.
