A Calm Street Scene, Empty Government Parking Lots, And 55% Attendance By Staff

18 July 2022 Kuwait

Kuwait's streets seemed calm and empty after the feast and official holidays ended. Al-Qabas daily reports that parking lots in front of ministries and government offices looked deserted on the first working day after Eid al-Adha, with few employees and visitors, especially in the Ministries Complex.

The conversations between the workers in the complex, throughout their working hours, were characterized by cordiality and congratulations, and questions were asked about how they spent their holidays, and how much the chalets and travel costs were.

Expats and Kuwaitis who didn't travel out of Kuwait during the holidays spent their time shopping in the country with family and friends.

A large part of the conversation also revolved around murders and drugs that soured the holiday atmosphere, not to mention summer holidays at European clubs. While visiting most state ministries in the Ministries Complex, the phones continued ringing in some offices, and many visitors complained that vital departments were lacking employees, which caused them to be late in completing transactions. Other officials in the various government departments realized the situation and stepped in to assist.

A tour revealed that many employees in different ministries extended their vacations or took "medical leave", and this negatively affected the work atmosphere, and responsible sources stressed "this will not go unnoticed, and those who are absent will be held accountable."

According to sources, the automated devices will monitor employees who attend and leave work, in some way or another, but do not complete their assignments. Multiple rounds of monitoring work and absenteeism took place in the offices, and those absent were monitored, and violators were referred to legal affairs. Al-Qabas was informed by the sources that attendance immediately after work resumed after the holidays did not exceed 55 percent, and that employees took about forty percent of their annual summer vacations.
