50 Percent Curfew Violators Are Drunk
Fifty percent of all people who were arrested for violating the partial curfew were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
The source added violators of the ban are referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation only if they were caught drunk, but if the violators violated the curfew for any other reason, such cases are being investigated by the Ministry of Interior, because the charge falls under the category of ‘misdemeanor’.
The source pointed out violators of the ban, who have been proven to use psychotropic substances or any other substances of addiction will be tried for two counts and cannot claim lack of mental awareness for their actions.
The source pointed out that these types of cases are referred to the courts immediately under these exceptional circumstances. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has referred an unidentified young woman to the concerned authorities for violating the partial curfew, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Directorate General of Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Interior Ministry said in a statement, a copy of which has been obtained by the daily, that the Criminal Security Sector (Hawalli Governorate Investigation Department) arrested the suspect after her video clip including her picture went viral in which she talks about violating the partial curfew.
After she was arrested she admitted to the charge. She has been referred to the concerned jurisdiction to take legal measures against her. The ministry has called on the citizens and residents to adhere to the partial ban, noting that the security authorities will apply the law on everyone who violates cabinet decisions which is done in the public interest.
