1st Shipment Of Romanian Sheep Arrives In Kuwait
Al-Mawashi Trading and Transport Company has announced arrival of the first shipment of Romanian live sheep (Marino Roman) on board its ship ‘Shuwaikh’, which sailed from Romania through the Suez Canal and some Gulf countries, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
“This shipment came as a result of our strategic plan to ensure food security by diversifying sources and products to achieve stability and balance in the provision of red meat throughout the year. Romania, the fourth largest producer of sheep in the European Union, has been selected as one of the sources of our red meat. We will also import sheep from several other countries along with Romania,” CEO of company Osama Khalid Boodai disclosed in a press statement.
Boodai affirmed that the company supplied some Gulf countries with part of the shipment to meet the needs of the market for sacrifice during Eid Al-Adha. He explained the sheep will be provided exclusively as an illustration in the Capital Slaughterhouse and the new Al-Mawashi Supermarket in Al-Rai.
“The Romanian sheep are characterized by the quality of meat, as they graze in green plains and forests scattered in Romania, and are assembled from small farmers, in preparation for export. The experimental quantity of live sheep imported by plane from Romania in the holy month of Ramadan was very popular with consumers in Kuwait, which encouraged us to import this batch across the sea,” he added.
He pointed out that the company will implement all the conditions and global standards applied by all its vessels, such as the provision of specialist veterinarian facilities throughout the journey from Romania to Kuwait to monitor the health of sheep and provide technical staff for the daily follow-up of sheep throughout the trip.
These measures and standards have been applied voluntarily without the request of Romanian authorities, as part of the consistent and approved procedures taken by the company on all its maritime trips, he confirmed.
He also praised the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, headed Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mohammed Al-Yousif Al- Sabah, for opening the field to importing sheep from new sources. He lauded Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Romania Talal Mansour Al-Hajri, Romanian Ambassador to Kuwait Daniel Tanasi, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Roman Petrie Daya and his team for their support and tremendous efforts in completing this shipment and its arrival in Kuwait.
