10 % Spike In Passenger Traffic

National carrier Kuwait Airways will begin flying directly to New York as soon as aviation safety measures are complete, the airline said on Sunday.

Roundtrip flights to New York out of Kuwait International Airport’s newly-built Terminal 4 (T4) is part of plans to propel the Kuwaiti fl ag carrier to prominence in the aviation industry, Kuwait Airways CEO Kamal Al-Awadhi said in a statement. He cited recent talks a Kuwaiti delegation held with the US Department of Transportation to ensure that safety precautions are in place, paving the way for the direct flights to New York. Kuwait International Airport has seen a spike of up to 10 percent in passenger traffic with the completion of the sprawling terminal.

Meanwhile, based on Kuwait’s keenness to provide best aviation services, a delegation from Kuwait visited New York, USA which included the Executive Chairman of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) Eng Kamal Al-Awadhi representing the company, Director General of Kuwait Airport Security Department Major General Waleed Al-Saleh representing Ministry of Interior, and Assistant Director General for Aviation Security and Air Transportation Affairs in Directorate General for Civil Aviation Eng Emad Al-Jalawi.

According to a press release, the visit included meetings with the Transportation Security Administration during which the two parties discussed the coordination and security processes for the launch of direct fl ights of Kuwait Airways from Kuwait to New York via T4 Terminal.
